Cookies & Tracking

In addition to the processing of personal data mentioned in the privacy policy, cookies and other tracking technologies – such as app identifiers – are stored on your terminal device during or after your visit to LOVOO’s website.

Cookies are small text files that are sent when you visit a website and are stored in your (the user’s) browser. If the user accesses the website in question again, their browser sends back the content of the cookies and thus enables user recognition.

Third-party technologies such as scripts, pixels and tags that LOVOO embeds in the LOVOO website for advertising purposes also set cookies on your terminal device.

Certain cookies are automatically deleted at the end of the browser session (“session cookies”), while others are stored for a specified period of time or permanently in the user’s browser and are then deleted automatically (“temporary cookies” or “permanent cookies”).

Cookies do not store any personally identifiable data (e.g. no names, email addresses or IP addresses). Instead, cookies typically contain a code (“an identifier”) and information about the storage period, and possibly also certain technical features (e.g. security features).

What categories of cookies does LOVOO use?

Depending on their function and purpose, LOVOO splits cookies and other tracking technologies (hereinafter also collectively referred to as “cookies”) into different categories.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to work and cannot be disabled in your systems. Generally speaking, these cookies are set only in response to actions you take that correspond to a service request – such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling out forms. You can set your browser to block these cookies or to notify you of these cookies being set. However, some areas of the website will then not work. These cookies do not store any personal data.

This category includes the likes of:

  •  Cookies that are used for user identification or authentication purposes, as well as cookies related to a secure authentication process;
  • Cookies that are designed to ensure the security of LOVOO’s information technology systems;
  • Abuse prevention cookies;
  • Cookies that temporarily store certain user inputs;
  • Cookies that store certain user preferences.

These cookies enable you to securely navigate our website and use the features as you wish. Without these cookies, essential LOVOO services could not be provided. We only use these cookies when you visit our website. They are usually deleted after you close your browser. Additionally, these cookies are used to retrieve the optimized website presentation when the website is accessed with a mobile device, so as to not consume your data allowance unnecessarily.

Consent is not required for the use of strictly necessary cookies. They cannot be disabled.

Please refer to our CMP for an overview of and more detailed information about the necessary cookies we use. It can be accessed using our website and the green Cookie button located there.

Functional cookies

These cookies enable the website to provide advanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third parties whose services we use on our site. If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these services may not work properly.

The legal basis for data processing and access to the terminal device is consent

We process your data alone or with the help of processors in accordance with Art. 28 of the GDPR or Art. 9 of the new Swiss Data Protection Act (nDSG). Processors process your data based on our instructions, not for their own purposes. In some cases, the providers are joint controllers for data processing together with us in accordance with Art. 26 of the GDPR, provided that we jointly process personal data for specific purposes and using jointly determined means. In other cases, these providers also process personal data independently. Some of the providers may be based in non-EU/EEA countries or share data with non-EU/EEA countries.

Please refer to our CMP for an overview of and more detailed information about the functional cookies we use and the providers we work with, as well as the purpose of our data processing activities. It can be accessed using our website and the green Cookie button located there.

You can opt out of data processing on your terminal device in connection with cookies at any time. To learn how to opt out of processing, see the “How can you manage and prevent the use of cookies and delete cookies?” section.

These cookies enable us to count visits and sources of traffic so that we can measure and improve the performance of our website. They help us to answer questions about which pages are most popular, which pages are least used, and how visitors move around the site. All the information collected by these cookies is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies, we will be unable to know when you visited our website.

Legal basis for personal data processing and access to your terminal device in connection with cookies

  • If we obtain the consent of the data subject for the processing of personal data, Art. 6(1)(1)(a) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or Art. 31(1) of the new Swiss Data Protection Act (nDSG) will form the legal basis.
  • In the event of personal data processing that is required to enter into a contractual relationship with LOVOO (user relationship and subscription), the first sentence of Art. 6(1)(b) of the GDPR or Art. 31(2)(a) of the nDSG shall apply as the legal basis. This also applies to processing operations required to perform pre-contractual measures.
  • If processing is required to protect a legitimate interest of LOVOO or a third party such as its users, and if the interests, fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject do not outweigh the former interest, the first sentence of Art. 6(1)(f) of the GDPR or Art. 31(1) of the nDSG will form the legal basis for processing.
  • For further data processing involving cookies, device IDs or other personal data on your terminal device, the relevant section of Art. 6(1) of the GDPR or Art. 31(1) of the nDSG shall apply depending on the configuration of data processing activities mentioned.

If the legal basis is your consent, you are entitled to withdraw your consent at any time without this affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out based on your consent up until the same is withdrawn. If the legal basis is the legitimate interest, you are also entitled in principle to object to the processing of personal data pertaining to you at any time for reasons resulting from your particular situation. Article 21 of the GDPR applies in this respect. Article 21 of the GDPR applies in this respect.

How can you manage and prevent the use of cookies and delete cookies?

With the exception of strictly necessary cookies, we only use cookies with your consent. As part of consent management (on its “CMP”), LOVOO offers you the option of opting in or opting out with respect to the setting of cookies and checking which cookies have been set according to your specifications. You can choose to change the decision you made then at any time and, for example, subsequently withdraw any consent you may have given. You can access the settings options in our CMP for this purpose.

If you would like to contact us regarding your consent, please use the details provided in the Contact section of our privacy policy for this purpose or write to us on datenschutz@lovoo.com and include your audit ID and the date you gave your consent. You can find both in the CMP. It can be accessed using our website and the green Cookie button located there.

You can manage (enable / disable and delete) cookie settings on our website using the above features, and also by means of changing your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to manage your cookies by either accepting or rejecting all cookies, or by only agreeing to certain types of cookies. The process for managing and deleting cookies can be found in your browser’s Help feature.

If you change your cookie settings, certain cookies will be blocked. You may be unable to take full advantage of some of our website’s features. Also, we may be unable to provide some content that you have previously seen or used.

Overview of the cookies that LOVOO uses

A complete overview of all the cookies used on our website can be found in our CMP. In addition to the name of every single cookie, we have also listed the purpose of use, the data processed, the controller for data processing and other important information here.

Tracking technologies when you use the LOVOO app

In addition to the information about personal data processing provided in the privacy policy, tracking technologies – such as app identifiers – are used when you visit the LOVOO app. These may also result in personal data processing. “Device IDs” (also known as “app identifiers”) are used for tracking purposes within apps. They are unique to the terminal device in question. These IDs are the “Identifier For Advertisers (IDFA)” for iOS and the “Google Advertising ID” for Android. If you have not objected to the use of this ID for targeting and/or advertising purposes in the settings on your terminal device, or if you have not opted out of the use of IDs in general, your ID will be sent to us, and we or our partners may use it to collect personal data.

If you install our app on your device through third-party app store providers such as the Apple App Store or Google Play, the app store provider in question is the independent controller for tracking within their app store, or before you install and use our app. Only in the context of using the LOVOO app is LOVOO the controller for tracking within the app, unless stated otherwise in this cookies and tracking policy.

What categories of tracking technologies does LOVOO use when you use the LOVOO app?

LOVOO splits tracking technologies into different categories depending on their function and purpose. These categories are based on the specifications and guidelines set out by the “IAB Europe Transparency & Consent Framework” (TCF 2.0).

These tracking technologies include the following categories, which can be found in our CMP:

These tracking technologies enable you to securely navigate our app and use the features as you wish. Without these tracking technologies, essential LOVOO services could not be provided. We only use these tracking technologies when you visit our app.
